An Australia-based school leader and governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Adewale Kolapo Kareem, AKK, has said he would feel accountable before God if he failed to pursue his governorship ambition despite having the vision and capacity to contribute to the development of the state.
 
Speaking in a recent interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Kareem explained that his decision to join the race for the 2027 governorship election is rooted in a strong sense of responsibility, faith, and commitment to public service.
 
He said his aspiration is not driven by personal ambition or political convenience but by a deep conviction that Oyo State can become a model of progress, fairness, and opportunity for all.
 
According to him, failing to step forward at a time he believes he can contribute meaningfully to the development of the state would amount to neglecting a moral responsibility.
 
Kareem noted that seeking the governorship represents a step outside his comfort zone, but emphasized that both the Qur’an and the Bible encourage individuals to give back to their communities and contribute to societal development.
 
He cited the examples of Muhammad and Jesus Christ, saying their lives demonstrate that leadership is fundamentally about service, sacrifice, and commitment to the wellbeing of others.
 
The aspirant explained that his development philosophy, which he describes as “Realistic Tomorrow,” outlines the reasons behind his aspiration as well as the policy direction he intends to pursue if given the opportunity to lead the state.
 
He said the vision focuses on human capital development, economic expansion, infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance aimed at improving the living conditions of citizens across the state.
 
Kareem also used the opportunity to encourage Nigerians in the diaspora to return home and contribute to national development, noting that his own international exposure has shaped his belief in adapting global best practices to local realities.
 
He referenced his earlier articles titled “Leading with Conviction, Without Compromise” and “Let’s Come Home and Give Back to Our Communities,” where he advocated stronger participation of professionals abroad in the growth and development of their home communities.
 
According to him, Nigeria possesses a vast pool of skilled professionals across the diaspora whose knowledge and experience could significantly accelerate development if properly harnessed.
 
Kareem further stressed that the fear of God remains central to his leadership philosophy, noting that such accountability helps promote integrity, discipline, and compassion in public office.
 
He said leadership must be driven by sincerity and responsibility to the people rather than personal gain.
 
The APC governorship hopeful added that he remains committed, prepared, and ready to contribute his experience, ideas, and energy toward building a better future for Oyo State.
He maintained that his aspiration represents a call to service and a determination to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the state and the progress of the country.
