We welcome the new Islamic year, Hijrah 1447H, with so much to reflect on, but most importantly, in gratitude to our creator and saviour for bringing us this far and sustaining us for good. I wish to extend my warmest greetings to Muslim faithful across the globe, with special love to my brothers and sisters in Nigeria and Oyo State. Hijrah is beyond a historical event; it embodies perseverance, love, and the courage to do what is right, as exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) migration from Mecca to Medina. This moment reminds us to stand firm in our faith, embrace unity, and pursue justice, even in the face of adversity. It is a call to reflect on our journey and renew our commitment to building a world rooted in compassion and righteousness.

I acknowledge with gratitude the remarkable efforts of the Muslim world in promoting peace and tranquillity globally, although not enough. As well, I acknowledge Saudi Arabia’s seamless organisation of the Hajj and other spiritual acts of worship, it truly demonstrates a profound dedication to serving millions of pilgrims, encouraging spiritual growth, and strengthening Islamic unity. However, we can not ignore the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, where wars have claimed countless lives, left thousands of children orphaned, and displaced generations from their homes. I earnestly hope the international community prioritises peace, dialogue, and diplomacy to heal these wounds and restore hope to affected regions.

To Muslims, especially in Nigeria, I urge you to remain dutiful to Allah, our Creator, and to carry the fear of God in all our actions. This is especially critical in governance, where decisions made shape the lives and welfare of our people. As we progress into this new year, I believe so strongly that it is important for us to strive for integrity, fairness, and service in our dealings, and ensure that our leaderships reflects the values of compassion and accountability. In a nation facing economic and social challenges, this spiritual discipline can guide us toward a future where every citizen develops in every sense, and our communities grow stronger together.

This Hijrah season also offers a chance to pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity, and development. I call on all to support one another, uphold justice, and contribute to nation-building; we should draw inspiration from the resilience of our faith. To the government at all levels, I encourage policies that strengthen the vulnerable, enhance security, and promote economic stability, aligning with the ethical principles we cherish. Let us commit to being agents of positive change and prioritise a society where love and perseverance triumph over division.

On this auspicious occasion of Hijrah 1447 AH, I pray for Allah’s blessings, guidance, and protection over all Muslim faithful. May this year bring renewed strength, prosperity, and harmony to our homes, our state, and our nation. I remain hopeful that together, with faith and collective effort, together, we can build a future for Oyo State and Nigeria. Happy Hijrah 1447H to you all, and may this new Islamic year be filled with peace and progress.
