Dr Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK). AKK is a gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State in 2027.
Among many other things, I am convinced that entrepreneurship is key to unlocking individual and collective potential. We cannot overstate the significance of empowerment, – it is believed to be the spark that ignites the flame of innovation and progress. When individuals are empowered with the skills and knowledge to take control of their lives, it allows them to become unstoppable forces for change. The intersection of entrepreneurship and empowerment is where the magic happens, because it enables people to turn their passions into sustainable livelihoods that attend to their immediate and extended needs.
There are countless and numerous merits of entrepreneurship, and those who possess this skill are in high demand, especially in a society like ours. The world will always need the services of entrepreneurs, — they are the ones who create jobs, drive innovation, and stimulate economic growth. Our world is full of constant uncertainty, yet, entrepreneurs are the ones who thrive on chaos, who turn challenges into opportunities and obstacles into stepping stones. The world will continue to evolve at an unprecedented pace, and the demand for entrepreneurship skills will only continue to grow, which makes it an essential skillset for anyone looking to make a meaningful impact.
I think Nigeria, in particular, needs to support entrepreneurship spirits, – I see it is as one of the most effective ways to address the country’s unemployment challenges. We truly have a burgeoning population with a limited number of government and private sector jobs, it is thus clear that entrepreneurship is the way forward. If we mobilise enough support for entrepreneurship, we can create a thriving ecosystem of businesses that cater to the diverse needs of our population. This, in turn, will stimulate economic growth, reduce poverty, and improve living standards. It is imperative that we recognise the potential of entrepreneurship to transform our economy and our lives.
Recently, I had the privilege of attending an entrepreneurship program organised by the Women Wing of Aseyori Support Group (ASG) of Ward 9, Egbeda Local Government. The program was designed to support interested persons with the skills they need to boost themselves and become financially independent. I was impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of the participants, and I lauded the organisers for their efforts to empower women and youth. I shared my thoughts on the importance of entrepreneurship and empowerment, and I noted that with political power and will, we can expand these initiatives to reach even more people. I noted this is part of what I am trying to achieve with the AKK House Initiative that will be commissioned soon. As well, I briefed the gathering why I am running for political office, which is to ensure that God-fearing persons are in positions of power for the interest of the majority.
I generally reflect on my experience with the Aseyori Support Group, and it reminds me that a lot can be achieved with sincerity of purpose and genuine empowerment. Oyo state needs the right hands on its affairs, and I am more motivated than ever to ensure that our people are empowered to reach their full potential. I am willing to engage with everyone during my time in Nigeria, and I look forward to working with individuals and groups who share my vision for a better future. With collective action and a commitment to empowering our people, I am confident that we can achieve more greatness for everyone.
